Josef Velčovský

Josef Velčovský, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, is a popular Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. He is a member of a renowned family of visual artists; his son is designer Maxim Velčovský. Josef Velčovský's works are characterized by vibrant colors, playful themes, and an optimistic expression. His simple yet spacious compositions typically depict poetic landscapes and natural sceneries in connection with humans. Josef Velčovský has illustrated more than 70 books and is an indispensable and significant representative of Czech visual art in recent decades. His works are included in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague, the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague, and other institutions.
